Introduction
When the cells of a part of the body divide and grow uncontrollably and spread into other body parts, the condition is known as cancer. It is a fatal disease. A few cancer types, such as in the breasts or testicles, show a visible growth called tumors. Meanwhile, others like leukemia do not form any tumors.
The treatment depends on cancer’s severity. Identifying it at the beginning stage is physically not possible. But if identified through regular body checkups, it makes the treatment much easier. It is difficult to almost impossible to treat cancers in their final stages.
Liver cancer
Liver cancer forms tumors called malignant (cancerous) tumors. A liver is a vital part of the digestive system that absorbs nutrients from the digestive tract and circulates them into the blood. The liver also filters the blood, removing the toxic components and chemical wastes. As the liver is a part where all blood should pass through, cancer cells from other body parts are spread to the liver through the blood, making it secondary cancer. Primary liver cancer is caused by excess alcohol or chronic liver diseases like cirrhosis, hepatitis B and C, or congenital disabilities.
Liver cancers are generally hard and complicated to cure due to their complex make-up. Therefore, treatments focus on minimizing the pain and increasing the lifetime of the patient.
Thyroid cancer
The thyroid is a metabolism-controlling gland. It is located in the neck’s lower part. It releases hormones that command the body with various bodily functions like energy to be used and the body’s development. Women aged 40-50 years tend to get thyroid cancer, while men get it from their 60’s-70’s.
There are four types of thyroid cancers: papillary thyroid, follicular thyroid, medullary, and anaplastic thyroid cancer. Papillary cancer slowly spreads to the lymph nodes from other parts of the neck. Anaplastic cancer is the most rigid cancer of all. It is very difficult to treat, but it is also very rare to get this cancer.
The treatment of thyroid cancer depends on the stage and type of cancer.
Kidney cancer
The Kidneys are the parts that cleanse the blood and make urine. Kidney cancer occurs in people who are older than 40 years old. Kidney cancers usually start forming tumors. Stages of kidney cancer are decided according to the tumor’s size and the spread of the cells to other organs or blood vessels.
There are two types of kidney cancers: renal cell carcinoma and transition cell carcinoma. Renal cell carcinoma is the most common type of kidney cancer that starts forming in the lining of tube-like tumors. Transition cell carcinoma affects the center of the kidney.
Cancer treatment depends on one’s body type, age, and stage of cancer. If the tumor size is less than 1.5 inches, then it can be controlled by regular medication. But once the tumor increases, it is advised to get surgery. Surgery involves cutting out as much of the tumor as possible and keeping the kidney for as long as possible.
